Where do you get a comprehensive overview of the current issues when it comes to the field of education and training? Where do you obtain information on the latest tools and technical solutions available to teachers? How do you best prepare for the future challenges already today? This is what the staff members of Walter’s Kytke-project went to find out at the Educa exhibition.

Organized by the Trade Union of Education (OAJ), the Educa exhibition is the leading event in Finland when it comes to the field of education and training. The annually held event took place on the 26-27.1.2018. It attracted over 17 000 visitors and over 300 exhibitors. The two day exhibition was full of presentations and panel discussions held by teachers and other education specialists alike. The topics discussed include everything from school bullying, building a sense of community within the school, tools and technology for the future, school safety and leadership issues in the workplace among many others. Former Finnish president and Noble peace prize winner, Martti Ahtisaari was also in attendance, talking about his work for peace and his personal background as a teacher.

In addition to the various presentations there were a myriad of exhibition stands held by the many organizations and ministries that are involved within the education field both here in Finland and abroad. The Educa exhibition is an important opportunity for teacher and other actors from the education field for sharing of ideas and best practices and networking purposes. For this very reason Kytke staff were in attendance; to stay up-to-date with current topics within the school world and help ensure Kytke workshops are as effective, informative and relevant as possible in the future as well.

The organizing body, the Trade Union of Education (OAJ) is an independent and non-profit union with over 120 000 members. They are tasked with defending teachers’ rights and ensuring a good environment for both teachers and students to work in here in Finland.
